I’m always looking for a coffee spot where I can study and be productive. Recently, I found Ocean Avenue’s “YY Coffee Milk and Tea:” a great study spot for college students or neighborhood locals. If you’re an introvert looking for a quiet place for relaxation or productivity, this study cafe on Ocean Avenue is for you.

This was my experience at YY Cafe!

Coffee Spot Environment = A+ Study Space

Firstly, the exterior of this SF coffee spot is quite small without any big signs. Tip to find this mystery cafe: It’s right next to Mystic Gardens and Labcorp. YY Cafe is decorated with a red brick wall and an open glass window displaying the menu and cute tidbits.

Standouts: The cute bunny statues at the entrance window enhance the cutesy, welcoming aesthetic (the bunnies are so cute)!

The interior space- while small- entices visitors into becoming customers through its intentional layout and decor. The walls are a calming cream color, adorned by plastic plants hanging from the ceiling, and painted jack-o-lanterns. Finally, YY Cafe’s scrapbook-esque logo is the centerpiece decoration at the seating area, with a variety of cup types within the logo’s inner circle.

Standouts from the interior: YY Cafe was selling hair accessories matching this clean and cutesy aesthetic near the cashier area. 

My Study Cafe Experience: Drinks

Prior to ordering, it is a must to review the YY Coffee and Milk Tea’s menu thoroughly. This menu displays an assortment of 58 possible drinks and a topping menu that includes water nut boba and creme brulee. 

I ordered the Osmanthus Oolong Tea Latte, under the “Infused Tea Latte” category for $6.46, including tax. I’d recommend this drink for those who prefer to order simpler drinks- like iced lattes- at other coffee shops. My drink was ready within 5-7 minutes in a social-media-worthy-cute bottle.

(And yes- I am keeping this bottle at home because it is sooo! cute).

The drink itself had a 50/50 balance of the bitter notes of your typical cafe latte, and the slightly stronger delicate floral apricot notes from the osmanthus. The display of the drink was absolutely beautiful; I definitely had to post it on my Instagram Story. 

Study Cafe: Takeaways

The traffic on both visits was rather slow, and this cafe did not play ambient music. Despite this oddity, I felt the true ambiance of this cafe was fitting for general casual reading and studying.  In these pictures, I was reading the novelization of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. The cafe’s ambiance was perfect as I was reading about Anakin and Padme’s heart-fluttering love story.

For my next visit to YY Coffee, I plan to buy Toffee Coffee with Jelly as my sweet treat during Thanksgiving Break.

My verdict: While the drinks are more expensive, I’d definitely give this place a visit if you’re looking for a cafe to decompress and work on any of your projects. Personally, I’d reserve this study cafe for bi-monthly visits for studying big projects or reading my favorite book after finals.
