Hula Hoops is Close to Home

I am grateful for having such a gem of a restaurant close to my house. My family and I have been going to Hula Hoops ever since they opened for business back in 2017, it’s always the first thought for take out and catering for a family feast due to how close we live. Hula Hoops without a doubt is a staple of South San Francisco and one of the best bites you can eat in the Bay Area. While I have had the luxury of enjoying their take out and catering, dining in is much more of a treat and experience. It is a small yet comforting space where you can feel the hospitality within the atmosphere.

Island Identity

Hula Hoops prides themselves with island-inspired cuisine and cocktails. You will find your traditional Hawaiian staple foods such as Loco Moco, Kahlua Pork, and Barbecue Chicken. Furthermore, Hula Hoops also offers their hand at traditional Filipino cuisine as well; through Lumpia Shanghai, Sisig Appetizers, and one of my personal favorite desserts Bibingka. Their cocktails are straight of a tiki bar with favorites such as the Mai-Tai, Pina Colada, and various Ube cocktails. The implementation of Ube is quite present throughout the menu with Ube desserts and cocktails.

My Visit to Hula Hoops

My sister and I had the pleasure of dining in at Hula Hoops on a Wednesday evening. The host who was also our server took wonderful care of us, as he was responsible for the rest of the restaurant floor as well. My sister ordered a lemonade for her beverage while I ordered a flaming Mai-Tai known as the Buzz-Tai. Her lemonade was refreshing while my Buzz Tai packed a mean punch that took me our entire visit to finish (which is just the way I like it). For our entrees, I ordered the Mochiko Fried Chicken Loco Moco and my sister ordered the traditional beef Loco Moco. You can taste the expertise within their Loco Mocos as it is Hula Hoops’ specialty. This was the best dining experience Hula Hoops has provided to us.
